  • I'm Wondering

    It's been awhile.

    I'm wondering:
    • Is trying to find a new doctor worth saving $?  My current one isn't on our insurance plan, so insurance is only paying 60%.  Not cool.
    • Is it normal for doctors offices to have you make payments in cash?  Mine wants monthly $500 payments in CASH.  Another reason to consider another doctor, even though I really like my doctor.
    • Should I apply for Medi-Cal to pay the large sums our insurance company won't pay?
    • Do some companies put you on hold for long periods of time to try to get you to hang up?
    • Is it wrong of me to ask the government to shoulder the cost of my child?
    • Should I get a new phone?

  • Scary Parents

E and I went to the mall today with some friends.  They had a nice little play area there, so E and her friend got to play.  Eleanor walked up to a boat and the little boy playing in it (maybe 2) punched her in the face.  E came running to me, but the boy's mom saw the hit and grabbed E for the boy to apologize to her.  Eleanor got away and buried herself in me (I was about five feet from the hitting).  The mother was very harshly scolding the little boy and telling him to say he was sorry.  After he did, she whisked him away.

I am all for kids being scolded for hitting and being made to apologize, but not at the expense of the victim.  Eleanor is a very sensitive child.  I was afraid that E would think that the woman was mad at her.  I reassured her that she did nothing wrong and she seemed fine.

  • Sleep and Other Issues

I woke up at some point before morning with a leg on my face.  It was neither mine nor Matt's.  I took Eleanor back to bed.  I recently bought a new bed for her off of craigslist.  It's a twin sized very low loft bed.  She LOVES it.  For some reason though since the change to the new bed, she's taken to getting out of bed at night.  Usually, it's just before she goes to sleep.

In other news, we have learned the secret of keeping E's bed dry.  Before we go to bed, either Matt or I take E to the bathroom.  She seldom wakes up and almost always pees as soon as she's set on the potty.  Crazy.

I also learned the secret to Candyland.  Stack the deck.  This morning E wanted to play a board game.  Luckily the Frosty Princess (or whatever her name is) card was the first one she drew.  The game was over in six turns and E was engaged for the full time.  And she won.  Very nice.

There's a student I love who tonight said he wanted to be my son.  It wasn't because he likes me so much, but because he heard me say I was having mushrooms for dinner.  Silly kid.

  • It's Happened

Eleanor discovered the Disney store today.  We went to a mall to return some shoes and ride the carousel.  The shoes were from The Children's Place, which just happened to be right next to the Disney Store.  Eleanor stopped in the entry way and exclaimed, "Look!  The floor sparkles!"  She then noticed the six screens of various sizes playing an old Disney movie (maybe Sleeping Beauty?).  She was enthralled.  I watched, not wanting to seem like I disapproved of the store, but really, really not wanting to go in there.  Eventually, she was ready to move on.  I told her what was going on in the movie (much easier to explain than How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which was playing in another store) and she was fine with not going into the store.  For now.  Who knows how long we can stave off the Disney beast.  I don't mind if they come to visit every once in a while, I just don't want them coming in and taking over.

On another note, we also went to the pet store and played with a $1,600 golden retriever.  Now I have to go to work.

About Me

  • I recently moved to California and am learning how to drive in six lanes of traffic. I still spend most of my time enriching the life of Eleanor, but now I also tutor other people's children.
